Alimak Hek supply hoists for the Crossrail Project

Crossrail Project, London, UK

Alimak Hek supplied two Alimak Scando 650 hoists for the access shafts on the Crossrail C305 Dragados-Sisk Joint Venture (DSJV) project in London.

Elizabeth and sister tunnelling machine Victoria were lowered 40 metres underground into a shaft at Limmo Peninsula, next to Canning Town station to start their 8.3 km eastern tunnel drive.

Once the tunnelling machines were positioned the first hoist was installed, which assists with the safe and easy access for workers and materials into the shaft, saving time and boosting productivity.

The Alimak Hek engineering team worked closely with the DSJV team to determine the ultimate position within the shaft, as there was very little room left due to the installed tunnel machinery.

The second Alimak Scando construction hoist was installed two months later in the 30 metre deep Stepney Green service shaft.

A third hoist, which is a standard speed Alimak Scando 20/32, was also installed in the auxiliary Limmo shaft as a short term temporary access measure.
