Alimak climbs at Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls, Canada/USA

Passenger and vehicle bridge located below famous falls requires ongoing inspection and maintenance to ensure a safe experience for the many millions of visitors who view the falls annually.

The Rainbow Bridge at the Niagara Falls on the Canadian – US border recently underwent rigorous inspection, repair and painting with the help of an Alimak construction hoist.

The hoist travels from the road deck down to the base of the steel work, some 48.75 m (160 ft) and is in continuous use by the various groups involved in the project. One Scando hoist was used on the Canadian side and a second Scando hoist on the US side of the bridge.

Opened in 1941, the 442 m (1,450 ft) long steel arch Rainbow Bridge lies just below the Niagara Falls and is a popular route on foot or by car for many of the 10 million visitors attracted to the Falls each year, providing a view of the falls from both the Canadian and US sides.
