In 2024, Alimak, in collaboration with our long-standing Colombian distributor Hekcacol, delivered an Alimak SL-H 2000 elevator to the Río Claro cement plant in Sonsón, Antioquia, Colombia.
The SL-H 2000 elevator was installed in the plant’s clay premix tower, providing critical vertical access for mobilising personnel, materials, and tools. Cementos Argos, the operator of the Río Claro plant, has been increasingly focused on sustainability, including the production of calcined clay cement, a more environmentally friendly alternative. The Alimak SL-H 2000 is key in ensuring operational efficiency and helping the plant meet its production and maintenance goals.
The main challenge was positioning the elevator in the optimal location on the tower without incurring significant additional costs. Existing structural elements had to be carefully relocated to allow for the elevator’s installation while minimising disruptions to the plant’s operations.
As Cementos Argos shifts towards greener cement production, including using calcined clay to reduce carbon emissions, Alimak’s elevator helps improve operational efficiency. The Alimak SL-H 2000 elevator was installed, covering 7 landings with a lifting height of 40.5 metres. Its 2,000 kg capacity allows for safely transporting people and materials, ensuring smooth, efficient operations in the plant’s clay premix tower.
