The 3,200-acre Port of Long Beach in southern California is the second busiest port in the United States and the 15th busiest container cargo port in the world. With 71 post-panamax gantry cranes in operation, the Port of Long Beach handled more than 7.31 million containers (TEUs) in 2007. In 1986, Alimak delivered the first of eight Alimak Scando Mini 2\/10 elevators to provide improved access to the port\u2019s container cranes. Since then, 54 additional Alimak elevators and 4 Champion elevators have joined the port\u2019s crane elevator fleet.
