The construction of Meryal Waterpark, the most anticipated attraction at Qetaifan Island North in Qatar is well underway and an Alimak elevator plays a vital role at the main attraction.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon completion, it will form part of a luxurious community made up of hotels and world-class facilities that the natural resources and rich culture of the Middle East region have inspired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Construction of the waterpark began in 2019 and is being managed by property developers Qetaifan Projects. Expected to open in 2023, the waterpark will span an impressive 137,000 square metres, with 36 waterslides for visitors to enjoy. This includes body, raft and tube rides that offer various experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main attraction is undoubtedly the 85-metre-high \u201cIcon Tower\u201d, which will be situated on a man-made island and contain the highest waterslide in the world. Located 300 metres offshore, it will be accessed via train and include food and beverage outlets, changing facilities, retail spaces and cabanas. As well as water slides, the park will consist of dry rides, fountains, and children\u2019s play structures, ensuring Qetaifan Island North caters to a wide range of visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The construction of Meryal has been heavily inspired by Qatari culture, more specifically the oil and gas industries, and this will be most evident in the designs of the rides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the project\u2019s unique requirements, Alimak were chosen by Qetaifan Projects to provide vertical access products at the waterpark thanks to our tried and trusted leading rack and pinion technology, which differs from normal traction elevators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To help transport guests to and from the entertainment zone for at least 8 hours a day, Alimak\u2019s expert team provided an Alimak SE 2000 elevator system, consisting of two independent elevators operating on a single mast column. The elevator has two landings, as well as a capacity of 2,000 kg and a speed of 0.6 m\/s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alimak also provided electrical components with ingress protection rating up to IP67 and advanced automatic door-opening technology to meet the park\u2019s stringent safety requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
