Built for Height, Engineered for Flow. An Alimak multi-hoist solution at Karlatornet

Karlatornet, Scandinavia’s tallest building, required a vertical access solution built for speed, safety and reliability. Alimak delivered a multi-hoist system designed to keep people and materials moving efficiently across 74 floors, supporting the project’s demanding pace in Gothenburg’s challenging conditions.

Reaching a final height of 246 metres, a project of this scale demanded a highly efficient logistical flow. With numerous trades working simultaneously, it was essential to enable seamless access to all levels and ensure the smooth vertical transport of tools and equipment.

CONSTRUCTION HOISTS AND COMMON TOWER

To meet these demands, a twin-masted Alimak Mammoth and two dual Alimak Scando 650 construction hoists were installed on a common tower. Each dual configuration consisted of one high-speed Scando 650 FC-S – dedicated exclusively to passenger transportation – and one Scando 650 FC XL – designed for moving heavy and bulky materials.

This five-hoist setup allowed for the separation of people and materials, streamlining project logistics and significantly enhancing safety. The use of high-speed hoists for passengers ensured workers could reach their designated floors quickly – especially valuable when travelling up to the top levels.
