The need to inspect wires, replace air traffic warning lights, and maintain other critical parts of a bridge can be challenging at height.
Alimak rack-and-pinion elevators are adaptable to inclinations, curves, tight spaces, and harsh environmental conditions. The lifting height is practically unlimited thanks to the rack-and-pinion elevator drive technology.
Alimak elevators ensure important infrastructure elements are serviced and maintained to keep operations running day after day.

The first Alimak tunnel elevator was installed in Austria in 1975 to inspect the 600-meter deep ventilation shafts in a tunnel under the Tauern pass, in the Eastern Alps. Since then, Alimak elevators have been installed in a number of road and railway tunnels all over the world. They are used for transportation of personnel and materials, for inspection, maintenance, and emergency escape.
Alimak elevators are able to operate in tight and narrow spaces to transport passengers and tools. They do not require a shaft or a machine room.
Thanks to the Alimak rack-and-pinion technology the elevators are adaptable to inclinations and curves.
The rack-and-pinion elevator technology allows for a practically unlimited lifting height, with the deepest so far goes 700 meters deep in a mine in Mexico.
With many different car sizes available, Alimak elevators are suitable for narrow pylons or deep tunnels, able to transport personnel, heavy materials and emergency stretchers.
Typical applications that require vertical access include:
