Balsa Nova Cement Plant

In the heart of Paraná, Brazil, Alimak has partnered with Itambé to deliver a vertical access solution that prioritizes safety, reliability, and long-term performance. The Balsa Nova cement plant’s new pre-heater tower, reaching an impressive height of 119 meters, posed significant logistical and safety challenges during its construction phase.

During the construction of the pre-heater tower, workers were faced with the task of transporting tools and materials using a combination of stairs and a rented elevator. This method not only reduced productivity but also introduced serious safety risks. The customer needed a solution that could handle heavy loads, operate reliably in harsh industrial environments, and support daily use both during construction and future maintenance operations.

Alimak was approached to provide a solution that could withstand the harsh demands of an industrial environment while ensuring the highest safety standards. Alimak proposed the installation of a rack and pinion elevator model ALIMAK SL-H 2000 FC, specifically designed for industrial applications. With a lifting capacity of 2,000 kg, the elevator features a spacious car size of 1.4 x 3.0 x 2.13 m, a speed of 0.9 m/s, and nine landings to efficiently access different levels of the tower.

What set Alimak apart in this project was its unwavering focus on safety. By replacing temporary and improvised access methods with a dedicated industrial elevator, the risk of accidents was dramatically reduced. Workers could now move securely and swiftly between levels, carrying out their tasks with confidence and peace of mind. This transformation not only improved operational efficiency but also reinforced a culture of safety that will endure long after construction is complete.
