Alimak has delivered reliable vertical access to the mining industry since 1957, with elevators proven in some of the world’s toughest environments. One milestone includes an installation 2,070 m below ground at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory in Canada, one of the deepest scientific sites on earth. At the Grasberg Mine in Indonesia, Alimak elevators operate at an altitude of about 4,200 m, making them the world’s highest‑situated units. Alimak also achieved its deepest elevator installation at the Fresnillo Mine in Mexico, reaching a lifting height of 700 m.
Alimak’s industrial elevators can be installed easily and without the need for a shaft or a machine room.
The Alimak rack-and-pinion elevator technology allows for a practically unlimited lifting height, with the deepest so far goes 700 meters deep in a mine in Mexico.
Alimak elevators can operate as low as 2,000 metres below ground withstanding abrasive conditions to deliver a high-performing access solution.
In underground mines, Alimak rack-and-pinion elevators are ideally suited for providing the secondary, emergency vertical access required by mine safety regulations.
For mines with gas concentration, elevators with explosion protected equipment can be provided, thus ensuring that the elevator can be operated without risk.
Alimak rack-and-pinion elevators are adaptable to inclinations and curves.
Typical applications that require vertical access include:

Alimak elevators can be installed inside or outside chimney stacks without the need for a shaft or machine room, offering virtually unlimited lifting heights. They provide reliable access for inspection and maintenance of aircraft warning lights and air pollution control systems, ensuring efficiency and reducing downtime in demanding environments.
/https%3A%2F%2Falimak.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2026%2F02%2Fsurface-crusher-elevator.jpg)
Alimak industrial elevators support the productivity of conveyors by providing reliable access for maintenance and service, to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum.

The rugged design of the Alimak elevator ensures long-term performance on mining crushers with vibrations – which are a normal part of the crushing process. They provide convenient access to control rooms and vital equipment for service and maintenance.
/https%3A%2F%2Falimak.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2026%2F02%2Fde-watering-elevator.jpg)
Reliable access to de‑watering areas is essential for maintaining stable mine conditions. Quick vertical movement for personnel, tools, and maintenance teams supports timely servicing of pumps and drainage systems, reducing downtime and ensuring consistent water removal across multiple levels of the operation.
/https%3A%2F%2Falimak.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2026%2F02%2Fflotation-elevator.jpg)
Elevators enhance efficiency and safety around flotation areas by providing quick, reliable vertical access for operators, maintenance teams, and equipment. In an environment where tanks, platforms, and piping systems require frequent inspection, elevators reduce travel time, improve workflow, and support safer, more consistent operation of critical flotation processes.

Located above the underground mine shaft, the headframe, or winder tower, is a structural frame used to support the winding mechanism of the mine’s hoists. Providing access to the underground mining facility, these hoists are vital in the movement of ore out of the mine for processing.
Alimak industrial elevators can provide maintenance access to underground mine headframes, allowing workers to complete operation, servicing and inspections of hoist winder equipment on several levels. They also improve safety of operations on the mine site, providing a means of emergency access and evacuation, should an injury occur on the headframe.

Efficient access to ore stockpiles is essential for maintaining reliable, continuous operations in mining. Elevators provide reliable vertical transport for personnel and equipment, improving inspection efficiency, reducing travel time, and supporting safer maintenance activities around stockpile areas where terrain, dust, and steep inclines can otherwise limit accessibility.
