Pioneers in safety

When Alimak engineers developed the rack-and-pinion drive in the late 1950s, it created a safer work environment by replacing largely temporary wire‑rope solutions. Later, when the Alimak safety device was introduced, it crowned the entire rack‑and‑pinion system and marked a significant step forward in enhancing working conditions and promoting safer practices at construction sites.

Since the exchange system of safety devices was introduced in the late 1960’s, more then 50 000 units have been refurbished at our manufacturing plant in Sweden.

All Alimak products feature certified overspeed safety devices that automatically engage in the event of excessive speed, preventing accidents and safeguarding personnel.

In case of a power failure or unexpected stoppage, integrated emergency lowering systems enable controlled evacuation, while redundant braking systems maintain operational control at all times.

Robust engineering and continuous load monitoring prevent overloading and maintain stability, ensuring compliance with international safety standards.

From anti-slip flooring to secure door interlocks, every detail is designed to minimize risk and enhance operator confidence. The safety features of Alimak’s solutions include safety systems designed to sense overloading, relays for phase faults, car frames and machinery plates with safety hooks, electrical and mechanical systems for interlocking doors, top and bottom landing automatic stops, as well as buffer springs located below the bottom landing.

Commitment to compliance

In 2014, Alimak received the OHSAS 18001 certificate. Our management system governs all vital activities to support a healthy and safer working environment. This includes chemical control, risk analysis, reporting and investigation of near hits and accidents, and active management involvement. Safety audits are conducted regularly in both the workshop and office environments, with all identified improvements documented and followed by appropriate actions. In addition, periodic employee feedback surveys are carried out to gain insights into the work environment at Alimak, and the results are used to develop action plans that support continuous improvement.
