Alimak construction hoists provide vertical access for major Huddinge redevelopment
A major redevelopment is taking place in the centre of Huddinge, Sweden, where the new Huddinge Town Hall and Main Library combines extensive redevelopment with new construction. The project is being carried out in collaboration with contractor Cobab, property owner Huddinge Samhällsfastigheter and Huddinge Municipality. Enclosed by an extensive weather protection structure, the project relies on reliable vertical access for the efficient movement of personnel and materials.
Sydställningar is responsible for the scaffolding works behind the project’s enclosed working environment, using approximately 700 tonnes of scaffolding around the site. Erecting a structure of this scale represented a substantial undertaking for Sydställningar. A team of 32 people worked for approximately two months on the installation, with snowy conditions adding to the challenge.
The scale of the temporary structure reflects the complexity of the construction work taking place beneath it. Later stages of the project will also involve roof sections weighing approximately 17 tonnes each being lifted into position.
Vertical access across the project is supported by four Alimak™ Scando™ 650 construction hoists, rented to the project by Alimak customer Lambertsson and strategically positioned throughout the site.
THE CHALLENGE
A construction project of this scale requires effective access to working areas both outside and inside the building. The extensive scaffolding and weather protection structure creates an unusual construction environment, where personnel and materials need to move between ground level and different working areas while construction progresses within the enclosed site.
The size and configuration of the temporary structure also place particular demands on site logistics. With access required at several locations around and within the building, the project called for vertical transportation that could be integrated with the scaffolding, dedicated access structures and the building itself.
THE SOLUTION
Four Alimak Scando 650 construction hoists, rented to the project by Lambertsson, provide passenger and material access at different locations across the construction site.
On the exterior of the building, one Alimak Scando 650 single-car construction hoist provides vertical access along the façade.
Two additional Alimak Scando 650 FC 21/32 single-car hoists are installed adjacent to a purpose-built hoist tower and landing bridge structure providing access to the building. Each hoist has a capacity of 2,100 kg or 24 passengers. The associated landing bridge has a maximum uniformly distributed load capacity of 1,500 kg/m² for personnel and material handling operations.
A fourth Alimak Scando 650 single-car hoist is installed within the building itself, extending vertical access to the interior construction areas.
Together, the four installations demonstrate the flexibility of the Alimak Scando 650 in adapting to different access requirements within the same construction site.
THE RESULT
The four Alimak Scando 650 construction hoists support the movement of personnel and materials across a complex construction environment, helping maintain efficient site logistics throughout the redevelopment project.
Working alongside the extensive temporary scaffolding structure installed by Sydställningar, the hoists form part of the access infrastructure required to carry out construction within the large enclosed site. The temporary structure was built using the AT-PAC scaffolding system from Doka and incorporates approximately 700 tonnes of scaffolding, reflecting the scale and complexity of the redevelopment project.
The combination of façade-mounted access, two hoists serving a dedicated hoist tower and landing bridge, and an internally installed hoist demonstrates how different Alimak Scando 650 configurations can be used within a single project to support a range of site logistics and access needs.
Through Alimak customer Lambertsson, the project has access to proven construction hoist technology while accommodating the unusual site conditions created by the extensive weather protection and scaffolding structure.
The redevelopment is being delivered through close collaboration between Huddinge Samhällsfastigheter, Huddinge Municipality, contractor Cobab, scaffolding contractor Sydställningar and various specialist suppliers supporting the project.
