We provide high quality rack-and-pinion and traction elevators, construction hoists and work platforms. Alimak has a well-established global sales, service and distribution platform across more than 100 countries with strong market presence. The company has a large global installed base of over 23,000 units which provides unique know-how of all industrial application areas. Alimak was founded in 1948 and is part of Alimak Group which is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.

Vast experience

Alimak was founded, in Sweden, on 15th March 1948 by engineer and technical inventor Mr. Alvar Lindmark (1917-1975).

The company is founded

Alimak is founded in Skellefteå, Sweden, in 1948 by engineer and technical inventor Mr. Alvar Lindmark (1917–1975).

Limak mortar mixer

The company’s first patented product, the Limak mortar mixer.

1950

The first material hoist

The first material hoist with a wooden mast tower.

1952

First hoist with safety device

The first passenger hoist in Sweden is approved. Equipped with safety device.

1953

The first hoist of steel

The first passenger hoist constructed of steel.

1956

First mast climbing work platform

The first mast climbing work platform, “Jakob’s Ladder”.

1957

Raise Climber

The Alimak Raise Climber is introduced.

1958

Alimak TV-lift

The Alimak TV-lift is introduced. World’s tallest elevator: TV tower, Poland, 645 meter lifting height.

1962

First rack-and-pinion hoist

Introduction of the first rack-and-pinion driven construction hoist.

1963

The first ski lift

The first Alimak ski lift placed on the “White Mountain” in Skellefteå, Sweden 1963.

1966

First industrial elevator

The first permanent industrial elevator is installed.

1968

Alimak joins Linden cranes

Alimak joins Linden cranes and forms Linden-Alimak. Linden-Alimak supplies the world’s largest freestanding cranes, 135 meters high in 1977.

1973

First offshore elevator

The first delivery of a permanent Alimak industrial elevator to the offshore oil and gas industry.

1986

Statue of Liberty

Two permanent Alimak elevators are installed in the Statue of Liberty, New York, USA. One temporary Alimak construction hoist used during restoration.

1996

The Pope uses an Alimak

Pope John Paul II uses an Alimak hoist at his speech for 600,000 people in Caracas, Venezuela.

1993

ISO 9001 certification

Alimak obtains ISO 9001 quality certification.

1998

Largest Alimak elevator

The flagship of elevators is the one for the Royal Opera House in London. It has a capacity of 24 tonnes and is 18 meter long.

1999

Soccer team uses an Alimak

The Lazio soccer team uses an Alimak at a game in Rome, Italy.

2000

King of Sweden uses an Alimak

Carl XVI Gustav, King of Sweden takes an elevator tour in Stockholm.

2001

Merger with HEK

Alimak merges with Dutch work platform manufacturer Hek.

2003

Taipei 101 – World’s tallest building

Alimak construction hoists are used during construction of the world’s tallest building in Taiwan. At the time, Alimak hoists have been used on 8 out of the 10 tallest buildings in the world.

2006

Champion and Conrent are acquired

Alimak acquires the manufacturing business from Champion Elevators in the USA and the Conrent rental business from Coates Hire in Australia.

2006

Operation established in China

Alimak starts up local manufacturing in China.

2008-2010

Operations established in India and Brazil

Alimak establishes sales and service offices in India and Brazil.

2014

Heis-Tek is acquired

Alimak acquires offshore business from Heis-Tek in Norway.

2015

Alimak Group IPO

Alimak Group was listed on Nasdaq Stockholm.

2017

Facade Access is acquired

Alimak Group acquires Facade Access Group (Coxgomyl and Manntech), market leader in permanently installed building maintenance solutions.

2017

Avanti is acquired

Alimak Group acquires Avanti Wind Systems, a market leader in service lifts for wind power industry.

2019

Dataline, Verta and Cento are acquired

Alimak Group acquires Dataline, Verta and Cento.

2022

TallCrane is acquired

Alimak Group acquires TallCrane Equipment in Canada.

2022

Tractel is acquired

Alimak Group acquires Tractel.

2025

Century Elevators is acquired

Alimak Group acquires Century Elevators in the USA.

2025

Interlift is acquired

Alimak Group acquires Interlift in Sweden.
